An ancient Japanese legend promises anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes to be granted a wish, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury.
Brain Injury of Minnesota’s mission is to enhance the quality of life & bring promise of a better tomorrow for all people affected by brain injury. They’ve launched a year- long awareness project through art called CRANESTORM–WISHES IN FLIGHT.
It’s goal is to accumulate 100,000 folded origami cranes, one for every Minnesotan with a brain injury.
Throughout the year these cranes will become part of an ongoing art installation. The plan is to raise awareness of brain injury
& educate communities about brain injury
prevention. The collection of cranes will be
presented at a Create Ability Event, where they will form a Cranestorm of wishes in flight!
Wet Paint is known for its origami paper selection & our origami demos are among our most popular events. We thought Cranestorm was not only an interesting & worthwhile project, but an appropriate way for us to contribute to our community.
So, we have a lot of cranes to make. Wet Paint will host a weeklong crane folding event just before Valentine’s Day, beginning February 5. We want you to participate with us in our goal for the week of contributing 1,000 (or more) folded cranes!
Here’s how:
Kicking off the week will be our annual Valentine origami demo with origamist Kathleen Sheridan on Saturday, February 5th, 11-2pm. This year Kathleen will be teaching you how to make heart shaped boxes-- & also cranes, of course! While you are here, convey your good wishes for those with brain injury by folding some paper cranes that we’ll collect & contribute to Cranestorm.
ALL ORIGAMI WILL BE 15% OFF so you can fold cranes at home with friends & family & bring them back to Wet Paint to include in our donation.
Capping off the week will be a Crane Fold-A-Thon Soiree on Friday, February 11th from 5:30-7:30 pm at Wet Paint. Cranestorm’s Anna Karena will be on hand to help fold origami cranes & to talk informally about the project.
PLUS! Fold Cranes at home & bring them to Wet Paint to fill our front window-- we'll be collecting cranes through the END OF MARCH!
