TRY-IT! KIRIGAMI: Japanese Paper Cutting with Sheila Asato
Thursday, January 26th 5:30-7:30pm

Kirigami is enjoying a resurgence of popularity these days in Japan. It’s also a meditative & beautiful winter creative activity for Minnesotans! Kirigami designs can be used on cards, lanterns, in book arts and printmaking, as Japanese Mon (family crest) stamps which are cut from erasers and much more! And of course, you can cut snowflakes, using designs from the popular book Snowflakes: Creative Paper Cutouts. We’ve invited Sheila Asato to help us out. Sheila is a book artist & instructor at the MN Center for Book Arts where she also hosts & facilitates The Japan America Arts Forum; a collaboration between MCBA and the Japan America Society of MN. More info on Sheila can be found at her website monkeybridgearts.com

TRY-IT! PAPER LAMPSHADES, LANTERNS & VOTIVES
with Jonathan Granlund

Thursday, February 23rd 5:30-7:30pm

“This paper would make a great lamp or lantern” is an often heard comment at the Wet Paint paper counter. Now you can learn how you can do it! Jonathan Granlund is a local artist & construction worker who has worked on everything from pipe organs to pole barns, from timber frames to harpsichords. Jonathan will share his "problem-solving" methods & sculptural sense of structure to demonstrate how to make various lamps, shades, lanterns & votives inspired by our incredible paper selection. Take it from us, Jon’s “can do” attitude & wealth of knowledge is both infectious & inspirational. “Upcycle” that old lamp shade. Or maybe design some light sculptures….
