Amber was the medium of choice for the Flemish
masters of the 15th and 16th centuries. The reason? Well, look
at the paintings. Its hardness, brilliancy and unique color demonstrate why it still is regarded
as one of the most beautiful, most reliable of resin substances.
But from the vantage point of a half-millenium, there's a modern reason
for taking a second look at this medium: These paintings remain in a
remarkable state of preservation.
We admit we've brought this fascinating 50-ml bottle of Blockx
Amber Medium back from a trade show more as an education piece
than as a hot sales item, although you can purchase it for...well, let's
just say you'd save $170 dollars off list. But then again, if everyone
would buy a bottle, we're sure that price would come down.
