"Do you know of any art classes in the area?”
“Are there any figure drawing co-ops around here?”

Where to Go?
What to do?

A large number of our customers take advantage of the numerous resources available locally to begin or further develop their creative skills by enrolling in art classes or participating in drawing co-operatives. Below is a small sampling (for a more extensive list click here or on our RESOURCES link).

The Art Academy
(1550 Summit Avenue, Saint Paul) offers drawing and painting lessons for children ages 5-8, 9-18, and adults. Classes stress the fundamentals of technique and structure through the copying of the works of masters. Established in 1993 by James Robinson, he considers this as the formative step in developing the student's own style. Tel: (651) 699-1573.

The Atelier
(1681 E Hennepin Ave - Suite 280, Minneapolis) prides itself on passing on to their students a method of instruction that melds formal academic training with the influence of the French Impressionists. Emphasis is placed on developing the student's ability to observe and render proportion and value relationships. Tel: (612) 362-8421.

The Florence Hill Figure Drawing Co-op
(California Building, Fifth Floor, 75-22nd St NE, Minneapolis) was founded by Florence Hill in 1976 and has met 2-5pm every Sunday ever since -- including ANY holiday that might fall on a Sunday! It’s very professionally run, but the co-op is not run as a business -- anyone is free to show up, pay the modest model fee ($6) and participate. Tel. (612) 782-0353.

Como Park Zoo and Conservatory's Botanical and Zoological Art and Illustration
classes are offered in the fall, winter and spring and give students a unique opportunity to connect with plants and animals on a deep level. Classes take place within the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory, on the Zoo grounds, and live education programs featuring plants and animal ambassadors within the new Visitor Center. Tel: (651) 487-8274.

Minnesota River School of Fine Art

(190 River Ridge Circle, Burnsville) has courses in drawing, painting, sculpture and pottery. Classes are offered and taught by independent teachers who rent the facilities. Tel: (952) 890-4182.
