Liquitex Mediums
Liquitex is making shopping for acrylic mediums and varnishes easier than ever with the comprehensive re-launch of their professional line of additives and finishes. New packaging, new and improved products and informative merchandising will all help you, the artist, make the best decisions about what to add to, or cover with, your acrylic paintings.
First, the labeling: color-coded categories and easy to read text are the features you will immediately notice on the new packaging. Each label also clearly identifies the working properties, directions for use and applications of the product, too!
There are eight new products in the Liquitex acrylic mediums line.
String Gel is a self leveling gel with honey-like consistency used to produce (as the name implies) “strings” or “streaks” of color.
Palette Wetting Spray was designed to slow the drying of acrylic colors on the palette or on the surface of your painting.
Pouring Medium allows the artist to create even, poured puddles that will not craze.
Matte Super Heavy Gel retains high peaks and crisp brush strokes and dries to a translucent matte finish.
Flexible Modeling Paste combines marble dust with polymer emulsion to create a medium that can be used to build heavy textures and three dimensional forms.
Super Heavy Gesso provides all of the attributes of traditional acrylic gesso, but has the ability to hold sculptural shape.
Finally, Wet Paint favorite, Soluvar varnish, is now available in an aerosol spray in both Gloss and Matte.
Among the Liquitex products that have been improved are Clear Gesso and Ultra Matte Medium. The former provides enough tooth for a variety of drawing techniques but also makes an excellent ground for oils and acrylics. Apply Clear Gesso over your under-drawing or patterned surface to preserve these elements in your finished painting or tint Clear Gesso with acrylic paint to produce a custom colored ground.
Ultra Matte Medium, formerly Jarpaque, is designed to extend opaque colors without reducing their opacity or changing their color. Ultra Matte Medium produces extreme matte finishes.
Perhaps you are thinking “Those new and improved mediums sound neat, but I can’t really envision how they will look on my canvas.” No problem! Liquitex’s fancy, hand-painted shelf strips will show you at a glance how the product looks, then “flip” the strip for essential product information underneath.
