The Story of Igloo Press
Igloo Press, started in 1996, is the creation of Allison Chapman, a letterpress printer & custom bookbinder. Allison learned the value of printing & teaching from her granddad while doing demonstrations at antique engine shows & historical fairs. Later, as a student at Macalester College, Allison spent a semester demonstrating 18th & 19th century printing techniques at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History. A fixture at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts for years, Allison’s family recently moved to Ohio.
In addition to creating custom wedding invitations, family histories & professional portfolios out of her studio, Allison has started a gift line of refillable books & journals. These books feature beautiful materials & a clever spine that allows the pages to be replaced as needed. The dimensions are based on standard paper sizes, making it easy to refill with standard blank sheets or fill with pages of text printed from a home computer.
"Whether teaching classes or through my product line, I want to encourage people to share their stories with others,” says Ms. Chapman. “My refillable books offer an easy way to keep an ongoing calendar or journal that can be updated. These books also offer a professional way to self-publish writing as a gift or for use as a portfolio."
