The Story of Beka
Beka was started in St. Paul in 1973 by an extended family group - brothers, their spouses & some friends - who set out to make looms for their yarn store, The Yarnery, which they started in 1972 (The Yarnery is still on Grand Avenue today). In the late 1970’s, they started making creative play products for their own children, which they also offered to other yarn stores (chairs with a seat that could be decorated with woven fabric or needlepoint). Their children (all of whom worked at Beka in their teens & early adulthood) grew along with Beka's sales of children's products.
Brothers Peter & Jamie Kreisman managed Beka through the ups & downs of the last 35 years. Peter retired last year. Jamie's son, Jonathon, joined Beka as a full time employee in early 2007. Today, father & son enjoy working together, as Beka transitions to the next generation.
