I am the lucky recipient of anonymous gifts
throughout the year.

As I survey the store each morning, I find little drawings, messages and doodles left by yesterday’s customers.

Sometimes it is a Cy Twombly type scribble. Other times, a developing cartoon character. Maybe a repeated phrase or a little poem. Often it is commentary on the product literally at hand. Or a comment on one’s current state of mind.

Occasionally it is truly a message for me.

Often it is just artists and writers and regular folks testing a product. It is warming up for the masterpiece or the sketch or the homework or the journal entry. But it is everyone making their mark.

Whether we are trying to find the inner voice, express our feelings, communicate our politics, develop our ideas, record our thoughts, analyze the world, create change, document our lives, record our surroundings, we are making our art. And by sharing those marks, we are giving the best gifts of all.

Thank you for being our customers, our friends, and our community. Thank you for letting us be part of your process of making your mark on the world.
