Traveling
the Globe with New Papers at Wet Paint
Want to take a spin around the world? Let’s. Because
Wet Paint has just added some gorgeous international papers that require mentioning.
First, let’s go to Italy. Some of you may remember
our article on Magnani papers from our Spring into Summer issue. Magnani papers have
been been producing quality papers since 1404. The Italian company achieved
worldwide success in the 18th century when they started to export their
watermarked papers to South America, the Near East and throughout Europe,
replacing Spanish and English manufacturers. Because of Magnani’s
age-old knowledge of the paper production process and their ability
to find new manufacturing techniques, the company is able to personalize
and differentiate their products.
Wet Paint has taken advantage of this diversity by adding
to our existing Magnani line the following papers: the Annigoni pad,
the Magnani Velata pad, the Acquerello block and the Pescia block. The Annigoni pad is 100% cotton with wool fibers and colorants. Acid- and chlorine-free, it is well-suited for a wide
range of mediums. The Magnani Velata pad is composed
of acid-free 100% cellulose with a pale shade -- perfect for various
drawing techniques and offset printing. The Acquerello block and Pescia block are both 100% cotton and acid- and chlorine-free. Both are for all wet techniques,
with the Pescia also being suitable for engraving, etching,
litho and xylograph techniques.
Traveling on to Switzerland, we find the dazzling array
of Optix papers (pictured
above). These ten new papers have overlaid and interacting printed
ink designs on vellum. The intense visual effects which are created
are amazing to behold. The papers appear to move as the iridescent and
contrasting inks catch the play of light. Perfect for bookcovers,
wrapping paper, collages and scrapbooks. The creative possibilities
are endless.

As we travel eastward on our journey, the Yuzen Japanese screen
papers from Paper Connection International are breathtaking. Many are printed with a single scene, frameable as
an entire sheet. Of these, staff favorites include the Sumo wrestlers
sheet and the rabbit/frog/monkey picnic scene. Cranes, flowers and geometrics
abound throughout the sample folder.
So
put away those travel brochures and take an inexpensive trip around
the world the next time you visit the Wet Paint paper counter!
