daVinci creates each brush from raw material to finished product, combining
centuries-old wisdom with the latest innovations from the daVinci staff
machinists. Each brush features a seamless nickel-plated brass
ferrule that is rust resistant. These brushes
also are an excellent value in the larger sizes that other manufacturers
no longer produce.
For oil painters, we carry Red Sable oil brushes that are excellent for precise, controlled strokes, detail
work and fine blending. Color can be spread thinly and evenly for for
subtle shades of color, structuring or layering. They have unmatched
pointing and edging capability.
We also carry Black Sable oil brushes, which are stiffer
and more rugged than Red Sable and a better value in medium to large
sizes. Black Sable allows for smoother-than-bristle strokes that do
not mark the paint layers. If you are using any type of mongoose brush, try Black Sable.
For acrylics, try the Top Acryl five diameter synthetics.
We stock them from size 2 to 50! The varying diameters hold color much
like the "flags" on the tips of bristle brushes. They are shaped by
heat after gumming so that all shapes will keep their form through vigorous
use. They are extra stiff with a precise snap that makes them excellent
for heavy body acrylics or oils. They are a favorite of impasto painters (who use thick applications of paint). Whether massing color
in the large sizes or precision painting in the smaller sizes, they
are both versatile and rugged.
For watercolor and gouache, our hands-down
favorites are the CosmoTop Spin five diameter synthetics.
The thickest diameters of extra smooth nylon are on the outside and
thinner diameters are on the inside. This construction allows for water
holding capacity not previously seen in a synthetic. We stock
sizes 000 to 40. It also features an ergonomic handle that allows for hours of painting without hand cramping.
We also stock the CosmoTop Mix, a unique blend of Red Sable (edging and pointing), Blue Squirrel (waterholding and wash) and Black Sable (ruggedness
and durability). This brush was created to give the watercolorist the
benefits of all three hairs and incredible pricing in large sizes where
