The other day I was reminded how beautiful Thai papers can be. These delicately-made sheets are created with a variety of inclusions and styles.
One of my favorites come from a group called Thai Garden -- it is made with soft-colored magenta bougainvillea petals blended
with natural grasses and sunny orange marigold pieces.
Another favorite group is the sheer and fibrous Thai Unryu
Tissue -- they are made from 100% kozo plant
fibers and come in an array of subtle colors, like sage green, to the
most vibrant, like hot pink.
These papers are also available with printed designs, ranging from
the contemporary to the formal.
For someone who's playful and looking for whimsy, there's Thai
Batik -- these feature lively colors and designs, from fluttering
butterflies to leaping lizards.
I would love to list all the "Thailand Treasures" available at Wet
Paint -- but treat yourself and visit the paper counter. There
are so many unique papers being created all over the world (including
here in Minnesota). Make the time to experience the beauty of paper
with or without inclusions -- once you step into this tactile,
wonderful world, I guarantee you'll want more.
