Polymer clays are coming into their own as
an artist’s medium of choice. More and more artists are
turning to polymer as they discover new applications for it
due to its amazing properties.
The newest polymer clay to hit the market is the result of
a collaboration between one of the best-known polymer clay artists, Donna Kato, and the Van Aken company, one of the world’s foremost manufacturers of
modeling materials. It’s called Kato Polyclay,
a clay developed to improve on the working properties of materials
currently available to the polymer clay artist.
These properties include: consistency of feel throughout the line, ease of conditioning without
becoming sticky, intuitive color mixing, minimized
color shifts from raw to cured, uniformity
of cured surface, greater detail in photocopy
transfers, and increased strength and resilience of the final product. What really
impressed us at Wet Paint is that, even when rolled thin, it
is so strong yet flexible that you can actually sew into
it!
Improvements were achieved through Van Aken’s state-of-the-art
technology, recent advancements in polymer chemistry, and the
guidance provided by Kato together with test panels that included
80 professional polymer clay artists.
