Dominique Sennelier visits Wet Paint!

Dominique Sennelier during a vist to Wet Paint in October 1997.
It all started in Paris, when Gustave
Sennelier, a devoted chemist, opened the Maison Sennelier in
1887 on the Quai Voltaire, in front of the Louvre, and not too far from
the Ecole des Beaux-Arts.

As a paint dealer, he worked on pigments’
origin, on the manufacturing process, on the mixing and the solidity
of hues. His work was so meticulous and his eye for color so accurate,
that artists soon began to consider his palette as the ultimate standard
of quality.
The Sennelier Shop, early 20th century
The Maison Sennelier became a place of gathering
for artists. There was excitement and creativity. Daily exchanges gave
birth to new techniques and unique colors.

Impressionism gave birth to Sennelier's fine
art products. The historic breakthroughs accomplished by Cézanne,
Pissaro, Bonnard, Picasso and others stemmed from the palette created
by Gustave Sennelier.
Today's new Sennelier building in St-Brieuc (Côtes d'Armor).
Throughout its history, Sennelier has remained
a family business. The quality of their products has remained true to
the brilliant beginnings of Gustave Sennelier. Today Wet Paint carries
their full line of art materials, including pastels, professional
watercolor and oil, oil bars, and egg
tempera.
