New Calligraphy Tools at Wet
Paint
Whether you’re a fine artist, a bookmaker, a calligrapher,
a stamper, an illustrator, a comics artist, or a cardmaker, chances
are you’re the kind of creative person who is constantly seeking
out different tools that open up new paths toward self-expression. That’s
one of the reasons we’ve brought in the following calligraphy products — our customers want new and innovative products (which often have applications beyond their intended purpose) and we
love to seek them out.

Butterfly and
Moth pens
Here are two new calligraphy pens, handmade by Illinois calligrapher Jim Chin. The brass nibs are folded and shaped
to enable interesting effects, shifting from broad to narrow;
the grippers aid with control of the pen.

McCaffery’s
Penman’s Ink
Lovely Penman’s
Ink is handmade by Neil McCaffery from Kansas. Available in 1oz jars and six colors: black, indigo
blue, red, red-violet, green and purple.

Japanese Manga Nibs
These nibs have created quite a stir since their arrival at
Wet Paint, one of the few places in the country you can find
them on hand and in stock. These are the nibs used by professional Manga artists in Japan — handmade, flexible
nibs that lay incredible lines and offer the artist terrific
control. Well-received by the Wet Paint staff, they’ve
made quite an impression on local calligraphers and artists
(not to mention virtually every customer who’s tried them).
Made by Zebra, Nikko and Tachikawa, five different nibs are available. Along with the above nibs,
a range of Japanese nibholders are also available.
Of particular interest is the holder with a dual mount, accomodating
two sizes of nibs: a larger mount for most nibs and the other
for “Maru” or crowquill nibs.

Tachikawa Spoon Nib Fountain Pen
Tachikawa also makes this inexpensive
refillable artist fountain pen. This pen is excellent for fine
detail work, and takes cartridges that contain a Manga
ink that dries quickly and is very black.

Faber-Castell Brush Pen
This waterproof brush pen of high lightfastness has been a staff favorite since its introduction, thanks in
part to its unique and expressive brushpoint. Now it’s
available in 24 additional colors that run
the full artist range.

Chandal Parchment
We’ve had several requests for this product. A traditional
parchment created using old world manufacturing methods,
these kid and lambskin made sheets are great
for calligraphy, bookmaking and cardmaking
.

Sennelier Colored Inks
Okay, okay, it’s not new, but this shellac-based
ink from Sennelier deserves mention
anyway. Available in a variety of rich, intense colors that
are intermixable, these inks are great for brushwork and calligraphy,
as well as for drawing.
