These Panels, Those Panels, and a Panel...On Panels
We are focusing on rigid surfaces for painting this summer at Wet Paint!
We will be hosting our first ever Panel on Panels, an event that will allow you to speak with area professionals who use panels in their work (see Events). In anticipation of this event, all regularly stocked panels will be on promotion at Wet Paint through the end of July.
Look at all of the possibilities:
Tara Fredrix offers five different panel choices: an acrylic primed cotton canvas wrapped around either affordable paper board or archival masonite, an acrylic primed linen covered masonite panel, an oil primed linen covered masonite panel (remember, oil painters, that Tara Fredrix still uses lead in their oil priming!), and a watercolor canvas panel.
Ampersand produces a large variety of masonite panels for painting and drawing.
Gessobord, for oil and acrylic painters, is available cradled and uncradled as is Claybord Smooth, a more absorbent surface for drawing, acrylic and egg tempera and Claybord Textured, a rigid surface for the watercolorist. Also available from Ampersand is Pastelbord, a colored, textured surface for the pastel artist and Claybord Black for scratchboard techniques.
ArtBoards, too, has plenty of options for the panel painter. Wet Paint stocks their cradled natural maple panels, their gesso panels (primed with their very nice hardboard acrylic gesso) and their panels surfaced with either Claessens oil primed linen or Arches watercolor paper. There is a brand new, super thin panel from ArtBoards coming this summer, too!

New Paint Line!
Old Holland New Masters Acrylic
One of the biggest new products in the art materials industry is New Masters Acrylics line from Old Holland.
That’s right, the famous paintmaker has created an acrylic line that carries the same high quality as its professional oil. The 168 colors are the result of seven years worth of research and testing over 250 pigments and binders.
Professor Theo de Beer, the renowned chemist and company owner, had these criteria for creating this new paint:
1. It must be a range that compliments their existing oil and watercolor line: a mixture of the best traditional colors, yet including the finest pigments from new technologies.
2. All pigments needed to be lightfast ASTM 1 or 2.
3. Like the oil, the acrylic needed to be formulated with the maximum pigmentation possible.
4. New Masters had to be free of extenders and fillers of any kind.
5. The binder had to be 100% pure acrylic resin for excellent adhesion and color retention.
The name New Masters is in
recognition of the new generation of Old Holland users. Just as Old Holland oils were used by many Dutch masters, New Masters will be used today by the new masters of art.

Daniel Greene Professional Oil
Daniel Greene is known as the
master of American portraiture. Daniel Greene Professional Oil is a line of 42 colors is the result of two years worth of cooperation between the artist and Jack Richeson & Company. These handcrafted paints are intense, highly pigmented, contain no fillers and have very strong tinting strength with uniform drying times. Our staff experimented with the paint. We like the clean mixes and slightly firm texture. The short palette of color is perfect for painters working in realistic portraiture
and landscape art.
The artist for whom this paint is named is Daniel E. Greene, who received his formal training at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and the Art Students League, as well as the National Academy of Design.
Mostly celebrated for his portraiture, Greene has painted numerous leaders, including Eleanor Roosevelt, astronaut Walter Schirra, author Ayn Rand and William Randolph Hearst.
His work can be found in more than 500 public and private collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution and the White House.
