The Wet Paint White Sale 2007

Japanese Paper Wet Paint White Sale

Lascaux Color

Lascaux Logo

Folks the world over agree that the Swiss company Lascaux produces some of the finest artists’ supplies available. Did you know that Wet Paint stocks five different lines of Lascaux acrylic paint in addition to the extremely popular Lascaux spray fixative? It’s true! Every Lascaux colour is distinguished by a high concentration of extremely pure pigment & top quality binding mediums; let’s look in detail at what makes each of the five different.

Lascaux Artist Acrylic Black

Lascaux Artist Acrylics have a pigment load, texture & feel normally reserved for oil paints. Each of the 54 colors dries evenly to a semi-matte finish. Lascaux Artist Acrylics can be applied in delicate washes or thick impastos on virtually any oil-free support; they’re even appropriate for exterior use. Additionally, Lascaux Artist colours are extraordinarily archival. They are extremely lightfast & will not oxidize, shrink, yellow or crack.

Lascaux Studio Jar

Lascaux Studio Acrylics offer a high quality, economically priced, professional grade acrylic paint with a soft, smooth viscosity. They are a more conventional acrylic in their handling & in their uniform, semi-gloss finish. Wet Paint stocks the 500ml bottles, a perfect size for working on large scale work. Just as with the Artist Acrylics, the Studio Acrylics are archival, waterproof when dry & will adhere to most any oil free surface.

Technically part of the Lascaux Studio line, the Lascaux Studio Bronze colours are unique as the only acrylics made with pure, non-oxidizing metallic powders. Available in eight different tones, Lascaux Studio Bronze Acrylics can be used straight from the bottle for the strongest metallic effect or mixed with other Lascaux acrylics to impart a hint of metallic lustre. We carry the Studio Bronze Acrylics in 85ml jars, but can special order them for you in larger quantities by request.

Lascaux Perlacryl

Also Lascaux & also glittery, Lascaux Perlacryl is a unique, non-toxic formulation combining synthetic mother-of-pearl with an acrylic polymer to produce a range of 16 different artists’ quality iridescent colours. As with Studio Bronze, Lascaux Perlacryl can be intermixed with other Lascaux acrylic paints, though their iridescence will be diminished. The dried paint film of Perlacryl is flexible, & scratch & water resistant.

Lascaux Aquacryl

Perhaps the most unique of the Lascaux acrylic colour lines is Lascaux Aquacryl. Aquacryl handles like a very smooth, fluid acrylic yet is transparent & easy to lift off like a watercolor. Once thin layers of Aquacryl have dried they will be undisturbed by subsequent over painting.

Conversely, thicker layers of Aquacryl can be partially reactivated. Aquacryl colours dry to a velvety matte, fresco-like appearance. Acrylic painters will love the brilliant, clear glazes that can be achieved using Aquacryl, while watercolorists will enjoy the handling qualities found only in the more viscous paints.

Lascaux Fixative

Somebody once called this the “Swiss Army Knife” of fine art fixatives. It can fix, seal & protect almost anything. Long regarded as a Wet Paint Staff Favorite, it’s a conservator- quality acrylic sealer!

Lascaux Fixativ (Fixative)

Williamsburg Professional Oil

Handmade by professional artists committed to making paints in the great European tradition that spans back centuries, using only the purest materials & in batches no greater than five gallons at a time. This gives Williamsburg total control over the product, much like the late 19th century French colormakers.

Jack Richeson Lyptus Dulce

Jack Richeson Lyptus Dulce

Following its introduction of the Lyptus Santa Fe II Easel during the holidays, Jack Richeson now offers its classic Dulce Easel made from wood of the Lyptus tree. Lyptus is a straight grain wood, similar in appearance to mahogany. The Lyptus tree is faster growing & therefore more ecological than old growth trees like oak & pine.

Jack Richeson Heavy Duty
Stretcher Bars

Jack Richeson’s Heavy Duty stretcher bars are made from lumber that is finger-jointed for the strength & straightness you require to make professional-grade supports for your artwork. For even greater stability, use the wood & aluminum combination of the Pro Bar, the bar most favored by museums.

Gamblin logo

The name Gamblin has become nearly synonymous with the concept of the “safe studio.”
Gamblin Artist Colors was founded on the development of healthy & environmentally friendly oil painting supplies. Gamsol odorless mineral spirits is the basis for many safe studio products and practices. Gamsol has a Permissible Exposure Level three times that of turpentine, a high flash point and is not absorbed through healthy, unbroken skin; this makes Gamsol a great alternative to more toxic solvents used as additives or cleaners. Gamsol is also a primary component in the variety of painting mediums, such as Galkyd, produced by Robert Gamblin.

Gamblin Mediums

If you are an oil painter who is
concerned with the potential hazards associated with your supplies, take some time to ask the folks at Wet Paint about how you can make your work environment a safe and healthy one!

Paints For The Ages

FROM TIME TO TIME WE LIKE TO CALL ATTENTION TO SOME OF THE PAINT LINES THAT TRACE BACK THROUGH THE CENTURIES AND ARE STILL WITH US TODAY -- AND FOR GOOD REASON.

Casein

Casein is made from soured skim milk. The curd is separated from the whey, then it is dried & cleaned. The powdered curd is mixed with an ammonium compound & water to create a binder for artists’ pigment. The resulting paint is water soluble, but dries quickly & permanently to a hard, matte finish. Casein can be applied wash-thin or impasto-thick. Folks such as muralists, who require consistency in their paint finish, will appreciate the eveness of dried casein paint film.

You can buy Shiva Casein at our Online Store by clicking here!

Egg Tempera

Egg tempera uses egg yolk as its binder. Its properties are similar to casein, though it does not lend itself to impasto techniques, & its dried film is not waterproof. Egg tempera is used most successfully on a small-scale rigid surface & in thin, layered applications as in many religious panel paintings of the Gothic ages. When you pick up your tubed egg tempera by Sennelier, be sure to try out our selection of Ampersand Claybord, a substrate perfectly suited for egg tempera. Artists interested in a non-yellowing alternative to oil paint or a more time-tested paint than acrylic, should explore egg tempera.

Gouache

Gouache refers to opaque watercolor. Its opacity can be achieved through the addition of chalk to an otherwise transparent color or by increasing the ratio of pigment to vehicle in a color formula. Although gouache does not date as far back as casein or egg tempera, it does share certain properties, including water solubility & a matte finish. Unlike the above paints, gouache remains water soluble when dry & can be applied to a flexible surface like paper without danger of cracking. Gouache is a great partner to watercolor for the artist who wants to play off transparency & opacity in their image.
