The Oregon Paintmaker will pay a special visit to Wet Paint on October 1st!
Wet Paint is pleased to bring Art Graham, founder of M. Graham & Co., to Saint Paul for a Wednesday evening event on October 1st. This is Mr. Graham’s first visit in nearly 10 years, so you will want to take advantage of this rare opportunity to meet one of the few American colormakers live & in person!
Mr. Graham graduated from Cooper Union in New York in 1970 with a BFA in Studio Painting. He began working for the storied paint maker, Grumbacher, in 1971, where he would remain for 20 years working in paint production, manufacture & marketing. Concurrently, Mr. Graham taught painting & the use of painting materials at Parsons School of Design from 1972-1980.
A self professed “old hippie”, Mr. Graham moved from New York to Oregon after leaving Grumbacher and, in 1992, founded M. Graham & Co. with his wife Diana.
The company’s mission is to create the most exceptional color possible. Graham feels that this is best achieved with an “artisan’s approach”: creating colors in small batches from recipes drawn from the history of art.
The resulting paint lines-- a soft, European style oil paint made with walnut oil, an artists’ gouache that derives it’s opacity from pigment concentration, a watercolor that uses honey in it’s vehicle for moistness & an acrylic with a unique emulsion allowing for increased pigment load & enhanced working properties-- are all of the highest professional grade, using the best pigment & the most pigment that each recipe will allow.
Additionally, as a domestic manufacturer, these paint lines are uniquely affordable since they aren’t imported into the United States from Europe or Japan.
