The Pilot Parallel Pens

Lauded as one of the best calligraphy cartridge pens yet invented, the Pilot Parallel Pen has been mystifyingly difficult to find. Our great calligraphy community here in the Twin Cities has made these pens very popular since we first brought them in.
The Parallel Pens come in four nib widths: 1.5mm, 2.4mm, 3.8mm and 6.0mm. The specially formulated ink is mixable: touching two tips of pens containing different colors, one can achieve remarkable effects with the blending colors. Each pen comes with two cartridges, a converter and nib cleaner.

This book by Brenda Broadbent is the first to be devoted exclusively to the Parallel Pen. It's an introduction, a "user's manual", a source of tips, all in one. Illustrated with extraordinary, color examples by 17 top calligraphers, it is an excellent starting point for anyone interested in discovering the limitless possibilities of these pens. Going beyond the basic instructions, it presents ideas on how to use these pens with different inks to create more permanent work.

THE LITTLE MANUAL OF CALLIGRAPHY

Although not about Parallel Pens, this is a terrific introduction to calligraphy. This is a brand new edition of Charles Pearce's classic book THE LITTLE MANUAL OF CALLIGRAPHY, published by Paper & Ink Arts. It's a beautiful little book that in its earlier editions was often used as the standard textbook for beginning calligraphers.
Charles Pearce is one of the Big Names in the world of calligraphy. A former assistant to Donald Jackson, he was made a Fellow of the prestigious Society of Scribes and Illuminators in London in 1970 and in the '80s he was the first (and so far, only) calligrapher to be granted Artist-in-Residence status by the city of New York. He's the author of a number of books in addition to THE LITTLE MANUAL OF CALLIGRAPHY, which are widely recommended by teachers to their students around the globe. Softcover, 32 illustrated pages.
