Beth & Ann have just returned from the annual art materials trade show and, once again, they have all sorts of new & exciting creative products coming our way. These products will be arriving over the course of the summer. Here’s what to watch for:
Gamblin Artist’s Oil Colors introduces eight new, quick drying alkyd colors called FastMatte. Gamblin’s FastMatte is a professional grade alkyd featuring a balanced palette & strong pigmentation, ideal for producing an almost unlimited number of mixed colors. FastMatte is perfect for underpainting (the matte surface allows for maximum adhesion with subsequent paint layers), sketching or anytime you need your oil paint film to dry fast. Also just arrived: Gamblin’s new nine color range of relief printmaking inks. These inks are formulated to print with unparalleled intensity & sensitivity to the most finely detailed marks. The relief inks provide a complement to Gamblin’s etching ink selection.
The big news from Golden Artist Colors is the expansion of the OPEN range of paints & additives & they’re now in stock at Wet Paint! With a slightly softer consistency than GOLDEN Heavy Body paints, the increased working time of these colors expands their range to include more traditional techniques once only possible with oils. The OPEN Acrylics line now has 80 colors & in addition, a select range will be available in 5 oz. tubes. GOLDEN OPEN Acrylic Medium & GOLDEN OPEN Acrylic Gel are now available in Gloss & new Matte sheens, too.
The other big news from Golden this summer is their purchase of the Williamsburg Handmade Oil Color company. Both paintmakers are in upstate New York & both share a dedication to bringing the finest professional grade materials to the artist. The Williamsburg oil paint that you’ve come to expect will remain consistent with Golden Artist Colors at the helm.
R&F Handmade Paints & Ampersand have teamed up to produce the new Encausticbord, a substrate made to take the heat of encaustic painting. Look for the arrival of a display, containing Ampersand’s surface & R&F’s repackaged encaustic paints & pigment sticks, later this summer.
Silver Brush will be sending us a long handled version of the popular, inexpensive, all purpose synthetic brush called Sterling Studio, as well as a brush series called Cambridge, a natural boar bristle/synthetic blend for oil.
Clementine Art’s all natural art supplies for kids are high quality, certified non-toxic & environmentally friendly. Clementine’s packaging is made from 100% post-consumer recycled & reusable materials. Check out the new assortment featuring paint, modeling dough, markers & stone shaped crayons.
Because of overwhelming customer requests, Wet Paint has renewed our commitment to the Copic line of markers; a spiffy new Copic marker display including all 334 sketch markers is on the way!
We’re really excited about the new free-style brushes from Liquitex! The twenty brushes that make up the “large scale” range have big, truly unique shapes & sizes. Matte-finish handles that are comfortable to hold are combined with top quality synthetic bristle heads that are extremely durable (tough enough for rugged outdoor surfaces) & responsive to create an artist quality brush that is ideal for massive mark making. The twenty four “detail” brushes complement the “large scale” brushes; they have long, contoured handles that give the brushes great balance & make them easy to hold. Also from Liquitex is Liquitex Professional Acrylic Ink! It is a range of extremely fluid acrylic that binds super-fine pigments in a state-of-the-art acrylic emulsion to create a permanent, quick drying water resistant ink ideal for a variety of techniques from watercolor effects to stamping. The intense, lightfast colors are also extremely fluid, so there’s no need to dilute for airbrushing or calligraphy.
Other new arrivals & “soon to arrivals”: from Caran D’Ache comes the fanciest (and largest!) table mounted, hand cranked pencil sharpener we’ve ever seen; two new collections from RGM of decorative painting knives will introduce new shapes & patterns into your painting; flower origami & outdoor origami kits from Yasutomo bring a seasonal element to traditional paper folding; and, new decorative sheet papers from Black Ink are sure to inspire creative projects all summer long. |
