Masters back in the days of the late Middle Ages were already using indigenous European resins, such as mastic from the Greek island of Chios and copal. It is Schmincke's contention that pigment and linseed oil are simply not sufficient to make good artist's oil paint. Years of research and formulation have gone into each paint. Each recipe has respect for the specific requirements of each individual color, resulting in a brilliant line of paint.
