The gesso on each panel performs like a classic traditional gesso, providing a readily absorbent vellum-like surface. This is a warm white gesso tone that is brilliant and highly reflective-- not another plastic acrylic gesso that paint just sits on, it is a receptive and responsive gesso that interacts with paint. Art Boards Gesso Panels are formaldehyde free and hang without framing.
These Art Boards Art Panels are made of Natural Maple Hardwood. The wood cradle gives the art panels edge a substantial presence. The cradled back support acts as a brace. It is aligned with the edge of the painting surface and it is perfectly flush with all sides of the painting support. The panel can be framed or left unframed either natural or painted. The cradled art panel is a total one inch thick. It is engineered for perfect balance. The same core material for the cradled back is used for the face of the artist panel. This is done to insure complete compatibility and balance for all atmospheric conditions.
Art Boards™ Natural Maple Cradled painting panel is the perfect surface for traditional egg tempera painting, as well as encaustic, oil and acrylic painting. Also watercolor paper can easily be mounted to the surface for painting watercolors or for mounting a finished watercolor or drawing. Art Boards™ cradled art panels are often used as the support for making portable fresco panels. All panels are meticulously sanded and ready for what ever painting ground the artist prefers to use.

Art Boards Natural Fiber Linen Panel is mounted with Oil Primed Claessens 13 DP Belgium Linen. Double Oil Primed Belgium Claessens Portrait Linen is sized with rabbit skin glue and primed with Zink-white. The primed canvas is then mounted to Art Boards™ Natural Fiber painting panel using a reversible archival conservators adhesive. The linen canvas can be removed at any time in the future for conservation purposes.
The linen mounted Natural Fiber Art Panel is 3/8 inch thick. The back of the painting panel has dovetail slots to hang the painting flush to the wall in either direction without the need for framing. The Natural Fiber art panel protects the linens painting surface from damage caused by denting, puncturing, or sagging. Its stable surface insures that the paint film will be kept from flexing and cracking.
Art Boards™ linen painting surface is flat. The linen art panel has crisp clean edges that are straight and square. The painting surface is well defined, a finished object with no distractions. There is a profound presence in a painting done on Art Boards™ art panels that cannot be found on a canvas stretched over canvas stretchers with its rounded edges, folded corners, and fluctuating surface.
Plein Air Gesso Panel has a classic traditional quality like no other gesso panel. It is finely sprayed and meticulously sanded on a 1/16" panel. Plein Air Acrylic Primed Cotton Canvas and Plein Air Oil Primed Belgian Linen are archivally mounted to the 1/16" Art Panel with a reversible conservator's adhesive.
Arches is mould-made in France with a100% cotton fiber content, it is pH neutral and is gelatin sized. This combination creates an excellent surface for watercolor, acrylics, gouache, pastels, alkyds, pencil, pen-and-ink, and more.
Archival cold press paper painting surface is archival and reversible; it can be removed from the panel at any time in the future. Also used for printmaking: The panels creamy smooth surface of Arches Cold Press paper is perfect for printmaking as well as painting and drawing. The cold press paper mounted art panel is also a beautiful surface for Art Boards™ “Acrylic Panel Gesso”.
Art Boards™ Hot Press Natural Fiber Watercolor Panels are mounted with Arches Hot Press 156 lb. paper. Arches is mould-made in France with 100% cotton fiber content, pH neutral and gelatin sized. This combination creates an excellent surface for painting with watercolor, acrylics, gouache, and alkyds. It is the perfect drawing surface for use with pencil, pen and ink, silverpoint, airbrush, mixed media and more.
The Natural Fiber Art Panel is 3/8 inch thick and flat. The back of the painting panel has dovetail slots to hang the painting flush to the wall in either direction. The painting surface has a smooth surface with minimum tooth. It is perfect for all kinds of painting, drawing and printmaking as well as collage.
Patrick Mackin has been an artist all his life. He graduated from Pratt in 1971 with a BFA in painting. He lived in his Brooklyn loft painting full time & working part time as a picture framer before learning the fine art of furniture making. In 1976, he founded Patrick Mackin Custom Furniture & has been producing high-end architectural woodwork & furniture for over 32 years. Janet Mackin joined the business in 1984 as an equal partner. She has a strong background in business, marketing & design.
