Jack Richeson arrived in the artists’ materials industry after his dreams of becoming an artist were dashed; colorblind, he was asked to leave Art School in the 1950's. Wishing to stay close to artists & support his growing family, he worked his way up to running one of Chicago's leading art supply stores. He went on from there to be National Sales Manager of Grumbacher & later, President of Morilla (now Canson). In 1981 Jack started his namesake company, Jack Richeson & Co. with his son Darren & his wife Ruth (Ruth sadly passed away in 2000). From modest beginnings, the Kimberly, Wisconsin facility is now an employer of over 75 people. As the company grew, so did the number of working family members: today five of Jack’s six children work for the company, while spouses & grandchildren add another ten (or more when school’s out) employees with a Richeson pedigree.
Today the company is the manufacturer of Shiva Oils & Caseins, Daniel Greene Oils, Richeson Pads, and Best Easels & importer of Fine Richeson Brushes, Unison Pastels, Shiva Paintstiks, eco friendly Lyptus Easels, and many other great products.
In 2004 Jack Richeson & Co. broke ground on a 25,000 square foot addition to the building which made room for the Richeson School of Art & Gallery. The art school & gallery are home to a beautiful collection of work & host to an array of workshops, competitions & exhibits each year.
Jack Richeson & Co. has come a long way from its modest beginnings in 1981, but you can be sure that this is only the start. Artists everywhere can rest assured that Jack Richeson is still out there, combing the world for the newest, best & most innovative supplies and, when he finds them, Wet Paint will have them.
