Sumi-e Painting: Spring Themes- Two-day Workshop Yuming Zhu
Seattle-based sumi-e watercolor artist Yuming Zhu is returning to Minnesota in April for a special 2-day workshop called “Sumi-e Painting: Spring Themes”. Originally from Shanghai, China, Yuming Zhu is a nationally recognized artist and teacher of the East-Asian watercolor form known as ‘sumi-e’. Painters new to sumi-e and those experienced in East Asian watercolor painting are welcome to this all levels workshop. Yuming will work frequently with students on an individual basis. There will be demos, exercises, and one-on-one attention, as well as warm-up and grounding time. Students will work with the Chinese character “dragon” and change the “dragon” calligraphy into a painting. Students will also learn to paint birds, Chinese orchids, and early spring flowers including tulips, rhododendrons, and local blooms. Feel free to bring flowers to arrange and paint. Both black ink and color will be used, and a variety of different brush strokes and forms practiced. Bring a bag lunch.
