Welcome to Wet Paint

A Worldly Feast
New Papers from Around the Globe

Decorative papers from Nepal, India and Thailand keep showing up on Wet Paint's table.

Having mastered handmade sheets and added inclusions to the paper pulp, our newest Asian paper masters move into paper manipulation and surface design. We have three rock painting motifs from Thailand and Egyptian motifs from India. The Nepalese have created sun prints in earthy colors with either a rectangular brick or leaf motif. India produces a silky thick paper with dimensional metallic swirls applied to the surface. With this same metallic dimensional appliqué, there are beautiful stipple vine patterns.

They keep embossing the sheet paper too. From Thailand, we have 1960's colors and stylized embossed tulips or daisies. We have papers with vine embossing from India. The Thai have embossed paper to create a faux crocodile leather look. Lokta Crinkled Crepe from Nepal looks like a handmade irregular crepe paper and is available in earthy colors. And also from Thailand: more sheets with embroidery, even with holiday trees. After surface and texture, the next step is to laminate sheets together.

From Thailand are layered laces. Lace sheets are applied to a heavier sheet in a contrasting color. The Nepalese have created Oil Papers: tough papers treated with an oil product to toughen them up and give them some transparency. There are then inclusions, such as leaves, threads and pulp, fused between two sheets.

We don't want to forget the rest of the globe. We have new printed papers from Rossi and Cavallini. For drawing, Wet Paint now offers Sabertooth from St. Armand. It is available in white plus eight colors that are applied to the surface with a sandpaper "tooth" to grasp your pastel or charcoal. After feasting your eyes and fingers on all these great new decorative papers, cleanse your palate with a sheet of Velata. From the Magnani Mill in Italy, it is far from a plain white sheet. Available in white and ivory, wove finish, 130 or 270 grams, it is a cotton sheet worthy of a fine print or drawing.
