Product Description

Created in the 1870s, and for a time rivaling all other whites, it is a good alternative for Zinc White, which forms a very brittle film. Historically known by a variety of names, we chose the one we felt was the most descriptive: Porcelain White. Ground in expeller pressed, refined Safflower Oil.
Going back to the earliest traditions of oil painting, Williamsburg is pleased to introduce whites, blues, and other delicate colors made with a far less yellowing safflower binder. Artists will find these invaluable for holding onto maximum clarity and brightness in upper layers of their paintings. Each of the colors has been ground in the highest quality, expeller pressed Safflower oil. Twelve of these colors are also available in linseed-based color palette, however Porcelain White is a new color being offered only in safflower.

Like French colormakers of the 19th century, Williamsburg maintains total control over their product. Each pigment is ground in pure, premium, alkali-refined and PH-balanced linseed oil and made in batches no larger than five gallons at a time.

Williamsburg oil colors are used by the worlds finest artists. You can see them in recent acquisitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York; the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC; and the Beaubourg in Paris.
