Product Description

IMPORTANT: Our vendors periodically experience difficulties fulfilling our orders of lead-based oil paints. This includes the popular Cremnitz, Flake and Silver Whites. Health concerns and regulation issues can make it difficult for the manufacturers of artist's oil colors to create and distribute paint with lead in it. These colors will remain on our website unless they are officially discontinued, but there have been industry-wide shortages at times. If we are unable to fulfill an order due to inventory issues, we will follow up via email.

An important note on Williamsburg Lead Whites:
Silver White is Lead (PW1) + Zinc (PW6)
Flake White is Lead (PW1) only
Makers of lead white oil paint use different naming conventions: Flake White often contains Zinc, while Silver or Cremnitz can describe a lead-only white. Please be aware that the naming of lead whites can vary from brand to brand and care should be taken when ordering.

Williamsburg handmade oil color was developed in the mid-1980s by Carl Plansky in his Williamsburg studio. The company is still very small and run by professional painters dedicated to making paint in the European tradition. Each color is ground to enhance the beauty and luminosity specific to that particular pigment.

Like French colormakers of the 19th century, Williamsburg maintains total control over their product. Each pigment is ground in pure, premium, alkali-refined and PH-balanced linseed oil and made in batches no larger than five gallons at a time.

Williamsburg oil colors are used by the worlds finest artists. You can see them in recent acquisitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York; the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC; and the Beaubourg in Paris.

Color shown here is for reference only.
